about

My most beautiful and most original song, and my most mythical. Written in 1998 for a lady I met online, and have never met in person.

lyrics

Raven and Crow
Mordewis ap Llys

Worn from the years, but young in his heart
Flying from legend appears Winter's Crow
Wisdom and beauty are found in his bearing
Plumage as white as the new-fallen snow

Into his flightway comes a young Raven
Knowledge came early, a thirst to be slaked
If she is less beautiful, no one could offer
New legends are sure to grow up in her wake

Chorus:
Raven and Crow, wingtip to wingtip
Black against white, with a rainbow between
Singing a tune that a songbird would cherish
All of a King and his beautiful Queen

Raven alights and appears as a woman
Touched by the Goddess, as any could see
"Come to me, Crow, I call you quite gently:
"Mordewis your name is, and my love to be."

Laughing, the Crow calls, "Dearest Irysa,
"Always the past, and forever ahead."
Coming to her as the man she remembered,
Kneeling and bowing his beautiful head
(cho.)

"Rise now, my love; kneel never before me,"
Drawing him up and closing the rift
"Always the Lady brings us together
"Let us lie down now and reverence the gift."

"Thanking the Lady, and thanking your offer,
"Never will I give to Her what you've kept.
"No dan controls us," he said to her softly,
"But if you would have me, I gladly accept."

(cho.)
Moss and Irysa look up from their desktops
Seeing each other as if it were new
Caught in their crystal computers together
Learning their love through their archetypes grew

Now they walk out to the Circle together
First with electrons, and then touching skin
Goddess awaits to rejoin them forever
Raven and Crow, a new time to begin

Final Chorus

Raven and Crow, wingtip to wingtip
Black against white, with a rainbow between
Singing a tune that a songbird would cherish
All of a King and his beautiful Queen
All about Moss and Irysa, his Queen.

Note: dan is a Keltic word which can be taken to mean a variety of things, including "fate", "karma", and either good or bad fortune, depending on context, and often is used to describe "old business" between people from past lives.
